Alright I added a poll to the side.

This poll is based on this article, which speculates that A-Rod wants to at least sit down with the Yankees.

The question here isn't whether or not you think the Yankees should try and sign Alex, the question is should they enter into talks with him at all? Is it worth it to try and negotiate with him and Boras, or should the Yankees turn their backs completely?

With the Yankees out of the picture, Alex's price gets driven way down. No team can match the type of extension plan the Yankees were planning on offering. That hurts A-Rod bottom line.

On the other hand, there are no real attractive third basemen options out there. Put all the crazy trade talk aside for now. The Yankees aren't going to be trading Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy to get Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins.

So who plays third? Joe Crede? Wilson Betemit? Arron Boone? Scott Brosuis?

I think the chances are very good that Alex and Boras have trouble finding teams willing to pay as much as they're looking for. More and more organizations are seeing that it takes more than one player to win. If that happens, and Alexs' price keeps dropping, do the Yankees at least have a sit down with him?

Feel free to answer the poll and leave any comments you might have below.

I voted yes but with a caveat. I love the idea of the Yankees holding a hard line in the negotiations, but I agree we need a third baseman, and Alex is adept both at hitting and fielding. I think Girardi can negate the clubhouse cancer aspect and possibly even get A-Rod to hit in the clutch in the playoffs.
So, what to do: I say sign Joe Crede or Adrian Beltre to show that we realy CAN do without A-Rod. I'm not even opposed to leaking the Yankees' offer to the media to take away Boras' leverage. Hey, they squandered the Texas money and disrespected the game, the Rockies and the Red Sox, and the Yankees too. Boras and Rodriguez should be accountable for their actions. There's going to be no bidding war, pure and simple. Heck, we should get a discount. We'll be okay with or without Alex.

Thanks Charles,
I agree were going to be ok with or without Alex.
I think we'll see Arod and Boras try for awhile to make it sound like the Yankees really are interested.

I think Boras is in panic mode, because he thought he could bully the Yankees into a huge deal. Instead they've turned their backs and now Boras can't get Arod anything close to what he promised.
