"Don't Stop Believin'"

Journey. Where would the world of karaoke be without them?

This song, in case you missed it, was played when the final score of the game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays was shown.. The blue jays rally late to win, bringing the Yankees within 2.5 games of the division..

Can it happen? Of course it can!

Detroit falls again, pushing them back 4.5 games.. There are 11 games left..

Moose was brilliant and probably just had himself penciled in as a starter when the post season in begins.

This season and this team has a different feel then in years past.. Last years Yankees swept Boston in a 5 game series, and every Yankee fan rejoiced. I felt good about that team... But, it doesn't even compare to how good I feel about this one. You can see it in their eyes and on their faces. I think we can all sense something when we watch this team..

Sometimes I think maybe it's just the blogging circles we're in that has our optimism running high, and that maybe the majority of Yankee fans aren't comfortable with this team. However when I take a trip outside this little community that we have, and when I read papers and message boards, people are genuinely excited about this team and about this season.

It has been awhile since I've been this captivated by baseball, and it feels good. There is an excitement in the air, and it grows stronger after every game. It's good to be a Yankee fan.

How's everyone else feeling?

The Numbers Game

The Yankees are 3.5 games behind the Red Sox, and 3 in the loss column. The Yankees have 12 games remaining. The Tigers are now are 3.5 games behind the Yankees. The Tigers have 11 games remaining. The Yankees magic number for the wild card sits at 9.

The Yankees are now 8-2 in their last 10, the Red Sox are are 5-5.

The Indians and Angels have the same record, at 88-62. This also puts them 2 games behind the Red Sox for the best record in the league. There seems to be a big debate about who we want to play the first round betwen the Indians and Angels. We can't worry about it. Focus on today and todays game. The playoff seeds will sort themselves out, and the Yankees will be ready for whomever they face.

Here in Boston, there is a sense of unease but I wouldn't say anyone is worried. They see those games against Tampa coming up, and they don't see how they can lose. However I do think they're overlooking how much ground the Yankees have made up.. After tonight though, there could be panic in the streets.

By the by.. I couldn't watch the game last night, did the squirrel show up?

Yankees win, 3 up in the WC, 6 down in the East

The Yankees put together a good win tonight. Hughes pitched great, Joba recorded his first major league win and ARod hit 2HRs in one inning.

The biggest thing out of that is the win by Hughes. He has struggled since returning from the DL and tonight was a monumental game for the Yankees. They needed to push their lead in the wild card.

Hughes threw a lot of pitches in the first two innings, but then he settled down as was fairly economical. He only walked two, and he struck out six. His fastball had life and a little extra pop on it. He was mostly throwing 91, but it seemed to be moving more then it was in his previous few starts.

Hughes is going to be a big part of the puzzle for the rest of the season. With Clemens down and Moose struggling, the Yankees need another starter or two to stand up, and hopefully Hughes can be that guy the rest of the way.
