Start Times for The ALDS

Lohud has reported the start times will be:

Game 1 at Cleveland on Thursday:
6:30 p.m.

Game 2 at Cleveland on Friday: 5 p.m.

Game 3 at New York on Sunday: 6:30 p.m.

Game 4 at New York on Monday: 6 p.m.

Game 5 at Cleveland on Oct. 10: 5 p.m.

Here's whats interesting..

The Yankees are 29-27 in day games, and 65-41 in night games, which is the third best night record in the league.

I have no idea what category these random start times fall into.. But I consider these times closer to night, rather than day.. So lets go with that.

The Edwar Enigma

Edwar is a strange player. Some nights his change up has the whole stadium fooled, other nights, even casual fans can tell what the pitch is when it leaves his hand..

In 25 games a AAA this year, Edwar pitched a total of 40 innings. In those 40 innings, he gave up 20 hits, stuck out 69 and didn't give up a single home run.. He also only walked 14..

This gave him a 0.90 ERA and a ridiculous 15.53 K per 9 ratio..

Those numbers are completely out the window in the majors

Starting September 5th, Edwar appeared in 4 games, giving up 3 hits, striking out 5 and not giving up a run..

However, he has now given up at least 1 run in his last 5 appearances, while only striking out 3..

He's pitched 1.2 innings against the Devil Rays and given up 9 earned runs.. That's a 48.60 ERA...

I really think the Yankees want him on the play off roster because his change up is so different from what the other relief pitchers throw.. But right you have no idea what Edwar is going to do when he goes out there. He might stirke out the side, he might give up 4 runs, or he might give up 4 runs, but still manage to stirke 3 batters out..

I for one can't figure it out.

Lets not worry about the post season roster though. The Yankees can again clinch tonight. So Go Yankees.

"Don't Stop Believin'"

Journey. Where would the world of karaoke be without them?

This song, in case you missed it, was played when the final score of the game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays was shown.. The blue jays rally late to win, bringing the Yankees within 2.5 games of the division..

Can it happen? Of course it can!

Detroit falls again, pushing them back 4.5 games.. There are 11 games left..

Moose was brilliant and probably just had himself penciled in as a starter when the post season in begins.

This season and this team has a different feel then in years past.. Last years Yankees swept Boston in a 5 game series, and every Yankee fan rejoiced. I felt good about that team... But, it doesn't even compare to how good I feel about this one. You can see it in their eyes and on their faces. I think we can all sense something when we watch this team..

Sometimes I think maybe it's just the blogging circles we're in that has our optimism running high, and that maybe the majority of Yankee fans aren't comfortable with this team. However when I take a trip outside this little community that we have, and when I read papers and message boards, people are genuinely excited about this team and about this season.

It has been awhile since I've been this captivated by baseball, and it feels good. There is an excitement in the air, and it grows stronger after every game. It's good to be a Yankee fan.

How's everyone else feeling?

Moose talks to Squirrel, pitches better

Ok well, I don't know for a fact that Mike Mussina sat down and had a chat with the squirrel, but I can only assume since he pitched so well.

I know you were all like me, and you cringed a bit when you saw Moose penciled in as the starter. But he came out and pitched great, and with each out Yankee fans collectively relaxed a little bit. Now, Yankee fans will sit back and hope to see a healthy, effective Clemens pitch on Sunday..

The Yankees gave him a 2 run lead before he even took the mound, and those turned out to be the only runs the Yankees would need. He walked 3 and only struck out 1, but it was still a solid performance.

In the playoffs (which, the Yankees will make), You have Wang then Pettitte.. But the rest of the rotation is still up in the air. Moose clearly helped his case to be the third starter tonight, but he needs to pitch well in more than just 1 game. Sunday, Clemens will get his chance to show the Yankees that he belongs in that third spot.

The Yankees go for #8 in a row tonight, with another rookie on the mound.

Speaking of rookies, The Trenton Thunder beat Akron 3-2 last night, to take a 2-0 lead in their best of 5 playoff series. Chase Wright got the win, pitching 7 and giving up 1 earned run. Don't give up on him yet.
Read more about it here.

Keep up the optimism Yankee fans!

Another day, another win

The Yankees have won 6 in a row and are 7-3 in their last 10. They've also won the first 4 of this 11 game road trip. Not to shabby.

The Sox won too, pushing their magic number down to 13 and remaining 5 games up... Though only 4 in the loss column.

Detroit spilt their doubleheader with Texas, allowing the Yankees to pick up a half game on them. That sets Detroit 4 games back and sets the Yankees magic wild card number at 14.

Seattle.. They are 6.5 games back and are dangerously close to being dropped out of the playoff discussion completely (if they haven't been already).

Phil pitched well enough. I thought he looked pretty solid.. 3 hits in 6 innings shows that when he goes after hitters, he can get them off-balance. He struck out 1 tonight, while walking 3.. Most people would like to see more strikeouts, but as Wang has showed, you don't always need to blow people away to be effective.

He did though, throw 106 pitches in just 6 innings.. That's to many... It did look at times like he didn't want to challenge the hitters by just going after them. But, again, 3 hits and 3 walks is pretty good.

Edwar (K-Ram), had that ridiculous change working tonight. He's fun to watch. 5 strikeouts in 2 innings for him.

And we got our first look at Ohlendorf. The consensus seems to be that he looked real comfortable on a major league mound, but we're all going to need to see him more before we can draw any real conclusions.

The Yankees go for 7 in a row tonight, and the optimism levels couldn't be higher. It's also been a few days now since we last saw Joba. If they pitch him tonight, he could get his off day tomorrow and be ready for the Sox this weekend...

And on a spooky note that I somehow missed and just saw over on Peter Abraham's LoHud blog.. The Yankees had 9 runs on 11 hits on the 6th anniversary of 9/11... Strange..

Optimism!

Optimism! Believe it!

More tomorrow.
